Order in Council 1280 - Expansion of Yarmouth Wharf


Since Confederation construction of infrastructure in tidal waters requires approval of the Dominion of Canada.

In 1912, the DAR requested approval for an expansion of the Evangeline Wharf (Yarmouth Wharf) including a larger wharf, a larger freight shed, and a new railway approach trestle and track. The approval was granted in a Federal Order in Council number 1280 of the year 1912. (Orders in Council are numbered beginning from number 1 each calendar year.)

Below is the text of the approval signed by the Prime Minister and the Governor General and including text recitals of the water-lot concerned and the details of the location of the railway trestle and track. Of interest is the information that the Evangeline Wharf was located north of Lovitt Street. Also included is a scan of the plan submitted for approval.

The DAR applied for approval of the replacement of the bridge over the Moose River in Annapolis County. The Order in Council mentions a plan No. 46365 attached to the report, but the Library and Archives Canada source does not include a scan of this plan.
