New Photos - Canada Science and Technology Museum

Post by SamuelMClark »

So for every one on here, we now have 430 new images (minus a few duplicates) up on the site. They can be found here http://www.dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?tit ... ogy_Museum though they will be all be put into their correct galleries in time. If you wish to help identify locations or improve information on a photo please reply to this post and reference the CSTM Image Number (example: STR34113a) along with your information. Some photos already have been updated so don't worry if you've done a duplicate we'll double check and update accordingly.

Cheers

Samuel

I've been plowing through Samuel's uploads and linking them up.
Does anyone recognize this locomotive? The museum identifies it as No. 543 but there's no record of that locomotive on the DAR. I think it is probably some other loco. Any ideas?

I grabbed that image and filtered it in Photoshop. No doubt about it, this is Saxon 545. The number on the dome can be read well enough to see that it is x45 and the front number plate is quite clearly 54x.

From the other Saxons in the series the cab lettering would have been the engine number not the name. The name board was most likely already removed at Kentville before they ever sent it up to Angus.

Good eye!

The Science and Tech boys have Locomotive No. 427 listed as Dominion Atlantic: http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=F ... _aa_cs.jpg
along with No. 482: http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=F ... _aa_cs.jpg

I don't see any evidence that either was on the DAR. Any thoughts?

That picture is from Library and Archives. It is a great shot. I loaded it up on the DAR-DPI from Wikimedia a few months ago since it is licensed as attribution-public domain: http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=File:A020744.jpg

Looks like CSTM has added more photos to their online photo collection over the next while I'll have to start going though my searches again to see if I find anything more new. I've already posted a few images of some of their new photos!

Also check out the HSWDPI.CA/wiki for images too some might pop up there too ;)

Some good finds I see already. I like the builder's photo but especially the Norrel photos of the "Boston wharf" in Yarmouth. Never seen any other photos from that angle before.

Thanks Samuel.

Glad your enjoying the finds! Hopefully I'll find some more goodies

CSTM says this is in Windsor but I can't really place it as the bridge in the foreground looks to be too short to cross the Avon River but the bridge in the back ground looks like the old train bridge... thoughts?

How interesting. You're right it is not Windsor. I think it is the Hortonville highway bridge over the Gaspereau River. It was a covered bridge until the early 50s when it burned and was replaced by a long Bailey Bridge, which is what I think we see in the NMST. The length and landscape seem to match up pretty well. You can still see those old abutments from the Highway 101 bridge today.
This interesting site has several photos of the old Hortonville covered bridge which proceeded the one in this photo: http://summerville-novascotia.com/NovaS ... edBridges/
What do you think?

I think you might be right Dan for the location of that CSTM photo! If I do upload it, that's where I'll put it for location!
