The North Mountain Railway Company incorporated in 1902 - a 14 1/2 mile route with stations at Centreville, Billtown, Lakeville, Woodville, Grafton, Somerset and Weston. The line was to travel through a real forest of apple orchards for its entire length. In September 1912, 3 tenders were received to build it. The contract was awarded to Kirk and Cook of North Sydney of Cape Breton. The contract called for the line to be finished by August 1st 1913. As of August 1913, steel was laid to Lakeville.
