The Railway and Marine World - 1912-03 - Allen's Creek Bridge Details, North Mountain Delay Requested
A news article was published in the March 1912 issue of The Railway and Marine World trade magazine giving some details of the proposed replacement bridge over Allen's Creek at Annapolis. Also, the DAR requested an extension of the time to complete the North Mountain extension. The scan of the article appears below, while the article text is shown here for search purposes:
Dominion Atlantic Ry.—We are officially advised that the revised location in the vicinity of Allen’s Creek, Annapolis, N.S., is being made to secure a better alignment, and for more economical working in connection with the construction of the piers for the new bridge. The present bridge is a wood structure consisting of a Howe truss of 80 ft. span on piers of three braced trestles, each with 39 spans on the east and 20 spans on the west side. The new structure is made up of one 150 ft. through truss steel span with two 80 ft. half deck plate girder flanking spans on concrete piers and abutments, In connection with this there is also to be about 350 ft. of timber trestle, which will afterwards be filled in with earth-work.
Application is being made to the Nova Scotia Legislature to extend the time within which the projected North Mountain extension may be built, in accordance with the conditions prescribed in chap. 156 of the statutes of 1910, and the filing of plans with the Dominion Government.
