1902 Nova Scotia Chapter 175 - An Act to amend Chapter 85 of the Acts of 1896, entitled, “An Act to incorporate the Midland Railway Company, Limited.”
An Act was approved by the Nova Scotia legislature on March 27th 1902 to amend the incorporation of the Midland Railway Company Chapter 85 of the Acts of 1896. The amendment allowed the railway to build several new lines:
- from Windsor to a point on the Halifax and South Western Railway,
- from Windsor to a point on the Nova Scotia Central Railway,
- from Windsor to a point at or near Middleton,
- from Truro along the Bay Shore to Parrsboro.
A proviso in the original act of 1896 was deleted. The proviso read: Provided that the power to build branches of said railway connecting with a shipping port or ports on the Atlantic Coast and Gulf of St, Lawrence, granted by this Act, shall not be construed to interfere with any other railway company or companies now or hereinafter to be organized or incorporated, building a line or lines of railway over the territory which might be covered by said branches. The practical effect of the original proviso and its deletion are not clear to this editor.
There was a minor amendment to say the extension of the line from the Intercolonial towards Pictou could go near Eastville, not exactly through Eastville.
The full text of the act is shown just below, while a digital image of the one page of the act from the statute books in the Archives of Nova Scotia is shown at the bottom of this page.
