I previously had a full description of how to help document these photos but as I feared it was a little too complicated and after a year, no one had done anything, so I'm back at it now. If you wonder what I'm talking about, just look at the history tab and choose the previous version of the page to see what I had here before.

1) Match the uploaded file name with the catalogue listing. [[:Image:John A. MacIntosh DAR Collection Catalogue.xls|Click here to load Catalogue.]]

Many of the photos here appear nowhere else for now. If you find one you like, bookmark the image page itself as they can leave this Upload page at anytime back into the wiki once I get them filled in with their info and linked to the pages they should be on.

2) Edit the photo's page (Image:Photo to be edited.jpg) and add the following information:

3) The description as given on the catalogue listing.

4) In the description, change the date from the numeric format given to a full verbose format ie: Month, Day, Year (June 20, 1954).

5) Link as many phrases and words as possible to subjects that already exist in the wiki. Add after the catalogue description any further observations you have of items, places, people, etc in the photo along with links to those subject pages. This will probably be the most time consuming part along with 6).

6) Put the photo link in as many pages as possible in the wiki. That is, for most of the phrases and words that have already been linked to in 5), there should be a corresponding link to the photo put in those pages Gallery section.

7) Add the photographer and collector credit information after the description. All JAM photos can be linked to the JAM photo collection page and links to individual collectors can also be added when there is an already established page for an individual collector.

Example (Please delete the space between [ and [ if you copy and paste this for editing):

*[ [:Category:John A. MacIntosh Photo|John A. MacIntosh photo]].

*[ [:Category:Chuck Conway Collection|Chuck Conway collection]].

If a collector category does not already exist, we just list the credits like this:

Example (Please delete the space between [ and [ if you copy and paste this for editing):

*[ [:Category:John A. MacIntosh Photo|John A. MacIntosh photo]].

*Chuck Conway collection

If the collector in not known at all, put no information regarding the collector (blank line).

Always put the astericks in front as this forces a new line and gives a small bullet in front of the description that looks really sharp.

8) After the description and the links we need to put the categories to which the photo belongs. Here is an example for you to use like a template.

Example (Please delete the space between [ and [ if you copy and paste this for editing):

[ [Category:John A. MacIntosh Photo]]

[ [Category:John A. MacIntosh Photo 1954|19540703-000]]

[ [Category:Conway Photo Gallery 1|000]]

[ [Category:Steam Gallery]]

Please note the following observations. The second category is the year the JAM photo was taken. The additional sort (the |19540703-720 part) is a forced sorting to make the photos list in chronological order for that year. Put the date the photo was taken in the sort field in this format: YYYYMMDD. Please just leave the -000 at the end of the date as this will make it list at the front of the category so others who have been determining the chronological order of the photo in the category will see it there and then know that there are more photos to place in order.

In the same manner, leave the |000 at the end of the 3rd category statement so that the individual collector can know that new photos have been categorized into their collections and they need to determine what the order will be in their own collection.

9) If the photo falls into any of the following Gallery categories, please add the appropriate category statement to the photo so that it will list in these special category's page:

Example (Please delete the space between [ and [ if you copy and paste this for editing):

[ [Category:Mysteries]]

[ [Category:Steam Gallery]]

[ [Category:Dayliner Gallery]]

[ [Category:Diesel Gallery]]

[ [Category:Train Wrecks]]

[ [Category:Postcards]]

[ [Category:Builders Photos]]

10) Last of all, please remove the [ [Category:JAM Uploads]] once all the editing is done.

Average time for editing is probably 25 minutes a photo once you get rolling and are familiar with the wiki markup language and the amount of material that is here to link too.

That covers everything that needs to be done to add a JAM photo into our wiki! Thank you for the time you will spend in advance and I know that by taking this on you will soon become acquainted with just how much wonderfull content we have here at the DAR DPI!!

JAM Uploads

The uploads in this category are all the currently known and catalogued MacIntosh photos.

As I have time I upload them here until the descriptions, collections and any other necessary links and categories are all added in and then finally I "release" them from this group.

I previously had a full description of how to help document these photos but as I feared it was a little too complicated and after a year, no one had done anything, so I'm back at it now. If you wonder what I'm talking about, just look at the history tab and choose the previous version of the page to see what I had here before.

Many of the photos here appear nowhere else for now. If you find one you like, bookmark the image page itself as they can leave this Upload page at anytime back into the wiki once I get them filled in with their info and linked to the pages they should be on.
