Troops from Aldershot at the Kentville Station with the Kentville Freight Shed to left, awaiting the arrival of a special recruiting train, taken by A.L. Hardy, March 11, 1916.
The train brought Lt. Col. Allison H. Borden to Kentville, recruiting for the Highland Brigade, a large First World War recruiting drive for several battalions who were intended to join the 85th Battalion and form a Nova Scotia Highland brigade. The troops visible are from the 112th Overseas Battalion stationed in Aldershot. Upon the arrival the train, Lt. Col Borden transferred from the train the the chaffeured car visible in the photo and the band from the 85th Battalion led the soldiers on a parade around Kentville designed to attract recruits to the new units.[1]
