Bowlby was a collector and photographer I knew from Paradise.  Many of the images in his collection were photos he took himself, while the remainder were photos from other amateur photographers in the community whom Bowlby would approach, and, with their permission, would copy their photos.  Copying would consist of him taking the image back to his "studio" where he would take a picture of it, then develop the negative and create enlargements.  The quality of the reprints deteriorated in the later years as his eyesight deteriorated.  Some of the later photos were a bit fuzzy, but it was still good being able to have copies of these historic images, nonetheless.  Upon his passing, his widow donated all his prints and negatives to the Macdonald Museum in Middleton.

Donald M. Bowlby Photo

Jeff Keddy provides this information:

Bowlby was a collector and photographer I knew from Paradise. Many of the images in his collection were photos he took himself, while the remainder were photos from other amateur photographers in the community whom Bowlby would approach, and, with their permission, would copy their photos. Copying would consist of him taking the image back to his "studio" where he would take a picture of it, then develop the negative and create enlargements. The quality of the reprints deteriorated in the later years as his eyesight deteriorated. Some of the later photos were a bit fuzzy, but it was still good being able to have copies of these historic images, nonetheless. Upon his passing, his widow donated all his prints and negatives to the Macdonald Museum in Middleton (1).
