Midland Railway Co.

In 1896 the act (chapter 85, 1896) to incorporate the Midland Railway Company was passed by the Nova Scotia Legislature. The plan was to build a railway from Truro through Clifton, Princeport, South Maitland, Kennetcook, Stanley, and Scotch Village to Windsor. Construction started in 1898 and required the construction of the massive South Maitland Bridge over the Shubenacadie River. Completed in 1901, the Midland ran as a independent short line with its own fleet of locomotives and freight cars and its own style of stations. In 1905, it was bought by the DAR and became the Truro Subdivision.
