According to Gary Ness on page 7 of "Canadian Pacific's Dominion Atlantic Railway (Volume 1)" and page 9 in Volume 2, this is a class D6a built in 1902 by Schenectady Locomotive Works, Schenectady, New York. It was the first of 60 D6a class locomotive for the C.P.R. Most likely transferred to the D.A.R. from the C.P.R. in 1917 it was not officially sold to the D.A.R. until 1937. It was scrapped in 1940.

Gary Ness in Volume 2 reports that sisters Nos. 502 and 503 were not actually sold to the D.A.R. until June of 1928 and were subsequently renumbered to 44 and 45 also receiving the "Land of Evangeline" crests on their tenders at that time. They remained numbered as 44 & 45 until 1940 when they returned to their original Nos. 502 and 503.

That being the case it is likely that No. 500 was in the same group and received the same attention probably receiving the No. 42 between 1928 and 1940.
