Early Wooden Gypsum cars

Post by Bev Buchanan »

Hi Steve;
I am forwarding a pix of one of the wooden sided rail cars used in gypsum service on the D.A.R. This car was built in 1926 and rebuilt in the kentville shops in June of 1951. It was in service on the DAR until the arrival of the steel sided cars now in service since
about 1963. I thought it would make a nice addition to the freight equipment roster.
Regards;
Bev

Nice picture. The caption that ties it directly to the DAR gypsum service is great info to have. Is this one of CP's "Big Otis" gondolas?

Bev, Thanks again for uploading those gypsum car shots. I am doing some kitbashes to make up a DAR gypsum train from the 1930s and 40s so those detail shots are a great help especially for lettering and gear placement. One small thing I noticed - the cars seem to have been overhauled at Angus Shops in Montreal, not Kentville, as the side reads AN for Angus, instead of KV for Kentville.
