Sounds like we need to create the "Vessels" category and start listing ships then to keep this information all straight!. I actually did that already so lets start adding ships next.

I am adding some pages on early DAR locomotives No. 1, 2, 3 etc. Found a very well researched article in the 1958 Halifax Herald by J.B. King that pulls together the various source material on W&A and early DAR locomotives. Unfortunately there are not many photos of their early steamers, although at the rate the wiki is attracting photos I imagine some will come to light!

Re: Roster - Steam List complete

Post by Dan Conlin »

I think we now have a page for every steam locomotive to serve on the DAR:
http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=Category:Steam

I have also created a name index to match loco numbers for all those colourful DAR locomotive names, many of which wee used by more than one locomotive:
http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=Named_Locomotives

Of course "complete" is a relative term. I'd love to hear if we have missed any DAR locomotives and some of the pages are pretty barebone if anyone has anything to add.

Special thanks to Jim O'Donnell for his great research and list of DAR locomotives and of course the late Omer Lavallee.

Thank you Dan for all the time you spent entering in all this locomotive data in to the wiki. I fell down on my half and for that, my apololgies.

It certainly is a dream come true to see such a complete locomotive roster albeit with it's quirks and contradictions!

I have more loco photos coming and a handful of firsts for engines that up to now have had no photo at all.

Happy to do it. Don't feel guilty. Other things get in the way. I really appreciate the images you've escorted onto the web and look forward to more joining their locomotive pages.

Re: fate of #1077
I noted the conflict between my roster list stating 1077 was returned to CPR in 8-56, and Omer Lavallee who had it scrapped at Kentville in '61. Actually both are wrong!
I now have a photo of 1077 taken at Truro in March 1960, showing the engine with rods off, enroute to Angus shops for scrapping. So the scrapping date of 1961 is likely correct, but at Angus, not Kentville.
I was to Kentville in May 1960, and at that time 2209 was the last steam engine on the DAR, and was stored in the roundhouse at that time.
This should clear up another conflict in our information bank!

That all makes sense about 1077's fate. I will change the record to suit. You've got insightful eyes to spot that 1960 Truro shot en route to the scraplines. It is online at the CMST but I did not notice the lack of drivers.

Cheers,
