Re: Kentville facilities dimensions.
I have some battered photocopies of the original blue prints for the Kentville Station. I helped get the originals donated to the Nova Scotia Archives in the 1990s. I did two of my own drawings to cover the end views of the station - the one thing missing from the blue prints at NSARM. I have tried to scan them but can't seem to get the scale right.STEM wrote:Almost sounds like you have a copy or did you just see it? I'd love to AutoCAD it.

Re: Kentville facilities dimensions.
Are the drawings CAD drawings or hand drawings?
When it comes to scanning drawings that have a scale indicated, I scan at the highest resolution possible. Taking note of the scale (1/4"=10' for example) one can use the DPI (ie. 600) to accurately measure the item in real world inches then convert with the noted scale to arrive at the true dimension of anything on the drawing.
So when you say you had problem with the scale, what aspect of this was not apparently working?

Re: Kentville facilities dimensions.
I finally scanned my Kentville station drawings for the east and west ends and added them to the Kentville Station page:

Hope this helps with some model projects.

These are nice Dan. Thanks. They look good on the station page.
Is there an access number for the prints at the musuem? Can digital copies be ordered?

Yes, the call number for the 1902 Hebert Gates plans for the Kentville Station at the Nova Scotia Archives is: 1.2.7.38.
They have been digitized because I know Dave MacLean was easily able to order copies.

Not that I need to be spoon fed
but:
1- Can they be ordered from the internet
2- Can you order a digital copy?

Re: Kentville facilities dimensions.
You can order by sending them an email: nsarm@gov.ns.ca
They do make digital copies sent via a CD or a FTP site.
I am not sure how payment works but they do lots of orders so they have a good system.
There are I think five or six sheets: North side, south side, first floor, second floor and one or two detail plans on the awning supports.

Re: Kentville facilities dimensions.
Sorry Steve. Still waaay late again. Yes those are the two buildings. I have seen the blueprint in real life and the big one was American Can (first building east of the roundhouse) and the second one was labelled storage. IIRC, the blueprint was a 'Last revision' dated around late 70's early 80s. I believe they were surplus by the railway sometime before that and sold to the juice plant in behind the roundhouse. That juice plant (Graves?) also eventually absorbed the roundhouse for storage.

Thanks for the confirmation and the extra details Ric. When you think of it, kind of funny yet kind of sad that even back then the railway was starting to wane.
