Cannot load my route in MSTS or RE

Post by hecrowell »

I fear I am in BIG trouble here

I develpoed a problem with my MSTS that advises me that MSTS cannot read train Database file and that there is an error in line 171 and 172 0f various CPSW10PK.eng files. I can click all of the OK's and Yes' through these files that range from CPR_8137.eng to CPR_8140.eng files to the pont where the program loads. I can then use some of the activities. When I exit the program, same procedure. These files that the program is ooking for aer installed in the C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Train SImulator/Trains/Trainsets folder where they should be - in the CSPW10PK folder
Further to that, the two routes that I loaded - the DAR route of Pauls and my Yarmouth route that I worked so hard on are not visible in the routes list any longer. I tried reloading these two routes with no change. When I finished the last work on my Yarmouth route, I saved the route as a backup in another location on my HD so if it is uasble, at least that is safe. I tried reloading that backed up route - no change.
I get the same situation in Route Editor as in the simulation when loading the program and when I try to reload the Yarmouth route I get a failed to load track database error. if I try using the rebuild track database advanced option, it looks like it starts t rebuild then the whole program crashes.
I dunno but it seems to me that MSTS is very touchy - to the point where I am almost afraid to add or remove ANYTHING from it.........no, not almost, I AM afraid to add or remove anything from it.

I guess I am wondering now - should I completely remove then reinstall MSTS?

Am I doomed for complete failure here?

Hi Harold,

This happens every once in a while. When it's happened to me I open RE, select the route, select Advanced, then check the box for rebuilding track database. You might have to do this a few time but you can usually recover and be back in business.

If the track database gets screwed up you would not be able to open the route, so any errors after that are usually bogus, clear up the database error and that will clear up all other errors.

You may also have to do this if you run into another error. If you ever select a piece of road and get an error saying something about not being able to delete the piece because the adjacent piece is not in the database, close the route, reopen it and go to advance and rebuild the database.

Make sure you keep regular backups stored somewhere just in case doing this fails for some reason, at least then you'll only lose a couple of days work.

Thanks a lot Paul for the help - - - worked fine except for the fact that the three buildings that I had placed had to be added again - they were not there in the recovered version for whatever reason. Anyway, great to know that it happens to others way more experienced than myself.

I had been making backups but I believe I neglected to maka a backup of the latest version,,,,maybe even a version or two before that. You know how things go when you are making great progress (that's my own opinion by the way) and hate to quit when you are on a roll and in a certain thought process.

FInally, a lot of my problem stemmed from the fact that during the reloading process on my new machine, I had neglected to re-install NewRoads and Xtracks. Once I did that, most of my trouble disappeared

LIVE AND LEARN, I always say.

Hi Harold,

I'm the same way, have to be about to do something that could cause problems before making a back up... like yesterday when I was about to start adding speed limits, first back up in over a week.

When I started the FJ&G years ago I'd get one of these database errors about every other day. Not sure why it started, was always associated with roads on one tile. Select one to delete and get the error. For some reason they stopped too, guess Bill Gates got tired of having a laugh on me and moved on!
