Hi Steve,

Well, where do I start!

I have thought of adding a bit of road dust to the SWs, but that's just one thing added to a very long list of things to do for the route. Won't catch me adding graffiti to my rolling stock, not a problem in the era I'm modeling.

Forrests can not have shadows, that leaves less then half a dozen trees on the route you could change to have shadows. All those hundreds of telephone poles are planted using a Gantry... but if you want them to have shadows they would have to be done individually, just like a building.

Not sure who John Fowlis is, there have been a lot of good people leave the TrainSim community for other forums over the years, mostly do to people's attitudes taking a nose dive compared to the relatively polite place it use to be. Use to be if a person was rude to others or was caught claiming files that weren't theirs they would be given the boot, now the moderators just don't care.

Do not the individual objects grouped together (forest, buildings) have their own individual attributes for shadows or is a shodow only defined when it becomes part of a route? If the prior, if they were turned on before they were grouped, would they not then have shadows?

After using the MSTS editor all afternoon and experiencing the pain all over, tell me.. is this the editor (MSTS) you have built all your routes with? Does it crash like crazy for you too?

Hi Steve,

Just had a look at one of the forests on the route and you're right, you could turn shadows on... been years since I looked at that one. As I said, doing this will seriously effect your frame rate and when you already have poor to moderate frame rates it may look good for taking screen shots but not so much while running or trying to do switching.

Yes, this is the same Route Editor I've used for years... and yes, it does crash a lot... how is that different then any other Microsoft product! Just the other day it crashed in the DAR route just because I turned the camera while trying to align a building. When it comes down to it I spend much more time drawing structures in TS Modeler when in RE... TSM crashes for different reasons!

Loving all the screenshots, especially the Hantsport views and Kentville looks better every time I see it.
Dumb question about the shadows but shouldn't they be coming from the left (the south)?

I believe that the "summer" season uses the summer soltice as it's mark for placing sunrise and sunset. The last screen shot I posted for those long shadows demostration was sunrise. Using the compass in the game, I can see the sun rises at 60 degrees and sets at 300 degrees. I'll have to check sunrise and sunset for this latitude but it seems about right doesn't it?

Have you got it loaded up yet Dan?

Hi Dan,

When heading east past Avonport at mile post 42 you actually start heading south east toward Hantsport. At the turn at Mount Denson where you turn inland you are actually heading 190 degrees... that's south south west! You don't start heading east until about MP 32, just west of Falmouth.

When I'm working on the route MSTS shows a compass heading in Route Editor... thought there was something wrong when I was working in the Shaw's Bog area and the compass showed 150 degrees!

Sunrise at Summer Solstice explains it, but that is kind of a weird extreme for the computer to pick. Train ops at that hour would be pretty light. :) Still not running MSTS - too much time on the computer already - but love the great screen shots. Keep up the good work.
