DARv3

Post by Paul Charland »

Hi All,

The track has been laid from Annapolis Royal to Yarmouth. Just finished the first major Bridge at Clementsport.

Must have gotten it right, the train didn't fall through!

Clipping along Paul. Bear River next! That will be one of the biggest challenges but not the only one. I'm really looking forward to seeing a Digby on the route. Small but busy. I even bet you've already considered whether a ferry is feasible to model and even animate. I need a new computer :(

This one fine for daily stuff but not a gaming machine anymore. Gotta have my DAR!

Just laying the roads between Annapolis Royal and Cornwallis, should be finished that tomorrow... then have to scenic through there and on to Metro Cornwallis!

I wouldn't mind a ferry, need to see if any are in Digby when a train is there. I have to trackage to the Digby wharf in but I think by 1974 it would have been removed.

I'll see if the spur is mentioned in the 1974 ETT, fairly sure it's gone by then.... think it's gone by the time the aerial shot in the wiki was taken but that's 1977.

Yea but many of the questions you ask regarding the DAR are great and when I go to look something up on the wiki and find or should I say don't find it there, then you've got me interested too!

I asked around for both you and me. Recall? Photos? Articles? We'll see what comes up but I'm pretty sure as you are that the tracks are indeed gone by 1974. :(

The tracks were lifted almost immediately after the second Princess of Acadia started operations from the new wharf in May 1971. I don't know the exact date, but they were definitely gone by 1974. The building was there for a few years beyond that, even though it wasn't in use after operations moved to the Shore Road. However, by about 1979-80, it had deteriorated to the point where it was condemned and the building and the portion of the wharf on which the building was located, were taken out.

Thanks for your reply Jim. That coincides with the hint I got on Atlantic Rails group. Now I'm on the hunt for articles and photos for the wiki to add some missing history!

This aerial view from 1978 definitely shows the track to the wharf gone:

Found it. The tracks were gone because they built a new wharf for the Princess of Acadia that started service in 1971.
