MSTS Multiplayer anyone?

Post by stem »

OK. I've been working on getting Paul's MSTS route to run strictly on OpenRails. It's not that I think that OpenRails is (at this point) the better solution however, it is free and easily available AND you can run multiplayer sessions.

So for all of you who have not tried railroading virtually yet, who would be interested in:
a) Installing the OpenRails program and giving Paul's DAR route a spin
b) eventually organizing a multiplayer session across the internet

I think it would be a cool thing to run the DAR digitally across Canada in a multiplayer session. If it turns out well, we can improve our skills and even do it for an evening together on a monthly basis. We could even save our sessions digitally and then render them turning them into videos that could run at the museum.

Excited yet or do you just think I'm nuts?

Think running on the DAR with several others might just be fun. Can help by setting up the consists here. Plenty of action between Kentville and Windsor to keep things interesting. You'd need someone to be the Saint John dispatcher to keep people in line... and on the line though.

Well I've got a server and 2 clients plus a dispatcher window all running at the same time on my computer and from what I can see I think we would have a blast with this!

In English, I'm running three trains at the same time in different locations and I'm centrally monitoring them and sending orders to them through the chat interface. I can even set signals although the DAR has none and remotely control the switches.

Running trains? I spend so much time drawing routes and equipment the only time I run trains is testing and taking screen shots to post. Might take a day off before starting v3 and give it a try!

Yea you could use a recreational pause! That`s why I was thinking multiplayer and doing up a few consists so we all could have some R&R time.
