DAR Rolling stock

Post by stem »

I've been having a pile of fun with the latest greatest version of the DAR. I run it for a easily 4 or 5 hours every week.

I just don't seem to get tired of it!

Because Paul's rolling stock and mine is different however, I think it may be time to address the issue.

I have however no particular single great idea that could solve all. I'm sure I'm not the only one in the world who has renamed .S files and the like so that multiple copies of same cars would be easily identified by their roadname and number (cp437234 or cn345234).

My best idea to to put them all in one folder such as C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Train Simulator\Trains\Trainset\DAR and indicate in the ENG file the same if not similar naming convention I use such that thye all group together in the listing no matter which program you use to edit routes and cars.

I use the naming convention for the ENG name: XXX-YY-ZZZZAA_BBBBcc

XXX = Roadname. In this case though as we want to easily identify everything for the route we could add on the front DAR_ such that now it would be:
DAR_XXX-YY-ZZzzAA_BBBBcc

DAR_ is the route,
XXX is the roadname (CNR,CPR, BNSF etc)
YY is the category such that:
PC is passenger car
FC is freight car
MW is MOW equipment
RB is robot car
ES is steam engine
ET is steam tender
ED is diesel engine
ZZ in FC categories is:
TC Tank Car
BC Box car
FC flat car
HO Hopper open
HC Hopper closed
IM Intermodal
GN Gondola
zz is the length (40', 50', 60')
BBBB is the car number
CC is
mt empty
ld loaded

I'm not suggestion that we use exactly what I use but I am suggesting that some kind of organization like this would solve our problems of imcompatible rolling stock.

Oh.. and the last and most important part... we distrbute the entire DAR car folder as a side archive to the route with all the rolling stock already in it.
