DAR New Minas

Post by Paul Charland »

Hi All,

Have a few more miles of mainline completed on the DAR route, took a few screenies to show you.

It's 9 AM and time for Train 24 to depart the Kentville yard and work it's way to Windsor.

Image

8135 crosses Mill Creek as it leaves Kentville town limits.

Train 24 follows the Cornwallis River Valley as it heads to Windsor.

Image

Train 24 arrives at it's first stop of the morning, New Minas. On the left is Hostess Foods, on the right the Maritime Co-op, both require daily switching.

Image

After completing their switching chores the crew head to their next stop, Post Williams.

About and hour later Train 1 make an appearance on it's return from Halifax.

Does this ever bring back memories! Beatiful work as always Paul!

I'll have the War Paint Dayliners on-line soon after they make the check out period.

Any more freight car repaints that we need for the line that I can get going?

Hi Steve,

About the RDCs... I had a thought about adding BIN to your RDCs, eventually when the route makes it to Halifax we'll need to be able to switch to the rear cab before doing the return movement to Kentville. I had a look in the Cabview folder and the rv file was already there. Tried to switch cabs in the sim and nothing happens. Any idea what the problem would be, after comparing the entries in the two files everything appears correct.

Lots of repaints to come... we'll need 40' boxcars with 8' doors painted for all the varients of the 50000 series cars, block, script, action red, and action green. You could probably use the basic car for a plug door insulated box in action yellow and whatever the earlier paint scheme was. Could do CN versions of the above cars as well as they were common on the DAR in the seventies.

Shawn Kelley just happened to post a shot of a CN pressure differential covered hopper he's working on, these were frequently used to handle flour to the Berwick Bakery. I'm planning a set of CP/CN/TH&B slab side covered hoppers before too long.

Game plan is to finish Port Williams and the scenery to the south of Wolfville, post a beta, then do the covered hoppers... then take a day off to do Christmas shopping, the next day being Christmas, then back to Wolfville... ya, right!

Are we having fun yet!

How do you like both the 40' and 50' Larry Westover box car models for accuracy, polycount and performance?

They're the best IMHO out of everything I could find at Train-sim.

Assuming you like them I'll use them for all future repaints.

BTW, had the same problem with the Dayliners trying to switch cab ends. Didn't have a clue what to do.

Hi Steve,

Whichever you are comfortable working with is fine by me.

Here's my "wish list" for the mix of the car paint schemes:

4 block lettering
2 script lettering
3 action red
1 action green

I know, I'm not doing the work! The 50000-60000 series cars were the most common CP cars on the line back in the early '70s. There is a block lettered car available at Trainsim.com, would be nice to have a couple of road numbers available though. A CN version of the car would also be nice, noodle and/or maple leaf versions. There are few CN 40 footers out there, two come to mind, one too bright, the other too dull, both are pretty fuzzy though (think they are 6 foot door cars).

PS: You didn't notice my Maritime-Ontario trailer at Hostess! Whipped this up from one of my CP Express trailers the other night!

Hi Steve,

Thanks, it will be a big help. No serious rush though, if everything goes will it's still going to take a year to get to the station in Halifax... almost as long as taking the bus from Greenwood!
