DAR Decals

If it's smaller than a bread box then it belongs in here. Post comments, stories, photos and whatever else seems appropriate for a model railway forum.

DAR Decals

Post by Dan Conlin »

I have been a big user of DAR Dry Transfer lettering from CDS, although peering through that translucent paper tries my patience at times. I noticed that a Manitoba company called Black Cat Publishing makes a few sets of DAR decals and I just got three sets: RDC, steam locomotive gold and steam locomotive imitation gold. They look quite nice, finer that the CDS, although a little complex. Has anyone had experience with them? Are there any other DAR lettering sets out there?

Does anyone make do-it-yourself decals?

Last year I contacted Black Cat and enquired if they were planning on making any sets that said " DOMINION ATLLANTIC " on them. After receiving an initial reply that this was a future project, I was informed several months later that it was a go. As I greedily rubbed my hands in anticipation of being one of the first people to get my hands on this set, a follow up e-mail quickly dashed my hopes. An error in the typeset caused the letters to be too short and wide and lacking the correct spacing. They now have a stack of unusable decal sheets and the cost of redoing the set in the near future was deemed prohibitive. I can post the samples he sent me if anyone is interested in seeing them.

I'd like to see them Brian and I'd like to pass on the infor to Jeff Pinchbeck as well as he has a good relationship with many model manufacturers.

Hi people.

I'm "Bumping" this thread to get your input on Black Cat decals again, years after this thread was created. Seemed we had some happy and unhappy customers for D.A.R. decals.

Can we update this thread with some recent feedback please?
