Rapido Doing a DAR Dayliner

If it's smaller than a bread box then it belongs in here. Post comments, stories, photos and whatever else seems appropriate for a model railway forum.

Rapido Doing a DAR Dayliner

Post by Dan Conlin »

Good news. The Canadian model company Rapido is doing a run of RDC models including a run in DAR livery:

Guess I am going to have to get one. I have an old Athern RDC which I lettered for DAR 9059 and I bought on of the Proto 1000 DAR 9058 but Rapido does such nice work, including apparently a full interior, than I'll have to get one of theirs. Maybe I'll get the VIA rail version that took me off to University.
Always nice to see the DAR get noticed by model companies.

I was going to post this, but Dan beat me to it!

I'll definitely have to get a few of the RDC's. Not sure which roads yet. I have been toying with modeling the DAR in the 1980s in HO - the era I remember. I would have to abandon the O scale though, and I'm still on the fence about that.

Being on the fence is where I am. I really have little room so N would fit the bill but I really want HO. I just can't imagine 22" radius in a 10 x 14 room though. If I can't run passenger cars, it's not worth doing for me.

I've got one already pre-ordered, 9059 with sound as I have the Proto 2000 9058 figured I'd get the 9058 and have it as my nice one instead of just getting the other 9058 re-numbered. Though I do need to find a DCC / Sound encoder to install into my proto 2000s.

I think that maybe when Rapido does their second runs, I'll get another one that's undecorated with sound so I can get Tim to paint it up in my Nova Scotia Railway scheme.

Anyone bought the new Rapido RDC dayliners? I ordered the DAR lettered units and just got an email from Maritime Hobbies and Crafts to tell me they are in. Can't want to see how it looks and runs. The Youtube reviews have been pretty positive.

I've got mine, 9059 as I've got one of Proto 2000s 9058. Rapido's RDC in the box is lighter than a proto 2000 out of the box, something I noticed haha. Mine runs great, I got the DCC/Sound version as I want greater operational control over my engines for running more than one at the same time.
