If you are ever going to model an apple warehouse ...

If it's smaller than a bread box then it belongs in here. Post comments, stories, photos and whatever else seems appropriate for a model railway forum.

If you are ever going to model an apple warehouse ...

Post by Dan Conlin »

If you ever build a model of one of the quintessential DAR structures, an apple warehouse, this period photo of one in Lawrencetown is a great prototype. It is early warehouse so it is short, only 75 or 80 feet long, which is a much better fit for an HO layout. One of the standard 40' x100' apple warehouses takes up a lot of room in HO, let alone some of the giant 200-300 foot versions from the 1930s. I built a 40' x 125' foot apple warehouse for the Apple Capital Museum in Berwick and at almost 18 inches long, it was too big for any siding on my home layout. The nice thing about this Lawrencetown example is how it contains all the classic warehouse features: the little office on the end, doors for two boxcars, windows for the packing room and the roof ventilators.

This is a nice prototype. Now how make them smell like an apple ware house!
