Forgive me as this is not DAR but Pier 21 where I work is updating their impressive 9 foot HO diorama of the famous Halifax ocean liner terminal circa 1958. We are looking for a CN steam locomotive circa 1958 to head the consist. Does anyone have an old HO CNR steamer that you'd like to donate? A 4-8-4 Northern would be ideal but we're not fussy if it fits the period and it doesn't have to run. Contact me at Pier 21 if interested: dconlin@pier21.ca
You'd get a tax receipt and have your model in a national museum!
I just completed some volunteer model work for Pier 21. I kit-bashed a set of Rivarossi heavyweight CNR cars by rearranging windows and doors and renumbering them so they resemble the low budget sleepers called colonist cars which were used on immigrant trains. Here's a snapshot of the consist on the diorama.
(Well I think DAR did run some troop trains into Pier 21 during the war so there is a connection of sorts.)

Hey Dan, are you guys still looking for a steam engine? I might have one that could work, and it does run good (DC Only). And it's got the CNR green scheme on the engine http://www.railpictures.net/images/d1/6 ... 938020.jpg it's the HO version of the real one in that photo.

Thanks Steve. Glad you liked the interview. I wasn't at my best - 2nd day of a nasty cold. Nice piece though, love the shot of the Ocean Limited pulling out.
Here's the locomotive that Duane Porter kindly donated to Pier 21 - making an imaginary visit to the Kentville Roundhouse. It is a CN mountain class, perfect for the period of the postwar immigrant trains at Pier 21. I gave it a bit of super detailing, adding an enclosed cab, extra piping, number plates and moving the boiler hardware to the right places.

Dan,
How's that Mountain holding up on the 85 lb. rail?
I wasn't aware that the Mountain class came to Halifax. I've seen a lot of photos of Northerns. Either way, great to see big steam power in NS.

The section crews are already complaining about rail damage from the Mountain's visit to Kentville.
CN Northerns were certainly the main passenger locomotive in NS but there were a number of Mountains that operated regularly here. See the Mountain gallery on Old Time Trains for Mountains captured on film at Truro:

And a fine rusty Mountain in colour at Truro: https://www.flickr.com/photos/51896204@N08/7470568396/
Cheers, Dan
