DAR Herald use?

If it's smaller than a bread box then it belongs in here. Post comments, stories, photos and whatever else seems appropriate for a model railway forum.

DAR Herald use?

Post by engineeral »

I would like to use a copy of the HSW herald shown in the upper left corner of these pages in my virtual model railroading (Trainz 2010). Can you tell me who is the owner so I might get permission (if needed) to use it? What is the source of the logo please?

Was there a monochrome version used?

Did Evangeline always face left?

I see some people are working on a Microsoft Train Simulator model - is anyone working with Auran Trainz (any version)?

Welcome Al!

Paul Charland is working on an MSTS DAR. Harold joined in later as a convert from Flight-Sim and has been working on the Yarmouth area although I've seen no progress reports from him in a while. It looks spectacular so far and is a real buzz to operate. You find post on the subject posts in the Work Forum - DAR MSTS line section.

Now the logo on this board came from the back of the:
http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=1 ... EVANGELINE
which I cleaned up and coloured in for use on this site. It was never in use on any of the structures or rolling stock on the railway. As far as Evangeline's face direction, check out the link to logos below for more info.

For more information on logos and colours, check out these two pages on the wiki as well:

As far as copyright goes, I imagine the CPR is still the copyright holder although I hardly think that after more than 50 years there's any copyright left unless they kept re-copyrighting it. Never the less, for non profit use, like our site, you have no worry about using it for your Trainz.

And lastly, there is no Trainz route in progress as both Paul and Harold are developing the route with MSTS. If you end up creating some good rolling stock though, I do believe that they can be ported over to MSTS. That could be interesting.

I am also working with TRAINZ and have considered developing a DAR themed route for it. The biggest problem is creating new assets for the program. I can't imagine creating the Cornwallis Inn for example as I have not learned the programs required to do this. As of now I am working in TRAINZ to create my HO scale DAR themed model railway.

I have been doing some work to make DAR rolling stock assets for TRAINZ 2010. I have done some minor re-paints of locos and passenger cars that were modelled by someone else. Here are a couple of screen shots and a video:

https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=2be6bc8c ... =documents

https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=2be6bc8c ... =documents

The passenger cars are from the TOTC (Turn of the Century) set, and the loco is one of a series of generic Baldwins. Both sets are free and both allow repaints for personal use. I think I can post my repaints of them on the Auran Download Station if I use so-called "aliased" assets.

I see that most DAR ten-wheelers have extended fuel bunkers and the loco I showed doesn't. To change that I would need the actual digital body model, not just a skin.

I sure wish I knew how to do a steamer. Like you, I searched for years for engines that could be used for the D.A.R but always came up short.

The Balwin you found is also on Train-Sim in the MSTS section. Compared to No. 32 for example,
http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=File:DAR0032d.jpg
The boiler is too short, the cab is too far forward and the boiler reduces in size halfway to the front. Then there's the Walschaerts valve gear instead of the Stephenson as well.

I wonder if I could get someone interested in doing a few D.A.R steamers. There was the fellow that created the CPR "Heritage" steamer set that was quite beautifully done. Did you ever see those? The entire set of CP steam is available on Train-sim.com. Search for MSTS CPHS Full Package and download cphs1.zip.

PS. I just wrote John Fowlis, the author of the above package and asked if he had ever created Angus, CLC, MLW or Baldwin 10 wheelers or Angus Pacifics.
