TALKS and Drop ins

Post by hanesh1 »

Hi All
I am going to be at the Fundy Interpretive Centre on August 18 in the afternoon mingling and speaking with tourists and locals, discussing the Midland Line and South Maitland Bridge. I have also discussed talking with the West Hants Historical and Dartmouth Historical no date as of yet... more to follow.... Anyone that wants to contribute any facts or photos for these talks or just drop by I would be happy to meet a fellow train history lover.... Holly

Sounds great Holly. I'm sure there's more than one here who will come down and have a good chat. As we get more Jenkins photos on-line there will be a lot more on the Midland in the months to come so stay in touch!

Hi Steve
Bill Clarke the former station agent and a former telegraph operator was there. I also spoke briefly before that day to a person that had the pin for the swing on the bridge. I recently started work in the information management department for a summer with the municipality before heading back this September to Dalhousie for my Masters in history. While at the municipality I was fortunate to obtain some documents that I hope I can get permission to share that show the bridge change that occurred in 1911. (draw to swing)
I also spoke with a lady from Kentville that is part of the historical society hoping to get permission to use and keep the old railway station as a museum. I offered to write a letter of support for her. My talk will be October 6, 2018 for the West Hants Historical Society. I also might help compile an overall history of the DAR for the museum in Kentville so photos and more importantly any information and contacts would be helpful. Nice to see a museum in Kentville ... looks like I might be spending some time in the archives this year maybe more of my free time. Newspaper Articles are such an interesting insight into the railway.
Hope to see more of you... any former employees with stories to share to me are always welcome.

History degree you say. Good on you. Get ready for freelance or government. What's going to be you first area to specialize in?

Thanks for the update.

Are you speaking of the Maitland bridge I'm assuming. If you find any engineering, sure would love to see it!
