Death of Allen Gibson

Post by Dan Conlin »

Allen Gibson died last week. He grew up in Wolfville in the 1930s and photographed the DAR in the busy steam era of the 1930s and 40s. I added his obit to the page we have about him: http://dardpi.ca/wiki/index.php?title=M._Allen_Gibson
If you haven't read it, his small book is a gem: "Train Time: Nostalgic Glimpses of A Wolfville Boyhood During Which Train Watching was a Happy Pastime". It is a nostalgic but well-written ad well-informed portrait of how the DAR shaped life in small town, written by someone with an understanding of railway operations and illustrated by his own photos. I thin Gary Ness has preserved Gibson's negatives which is good. I was given a copy when I was a kid and it had a huge interest in my interest in our favourite railway.

Thanks Dan. Saw your post on Facebook about his passing and that you updated his page on the wiki. I grabbed a copy of the obit from the HCH so it can be added later if the link to his obit goes dead end.

I would have loved to meet this man!
