Fred Joyce's photos

Post by stem »

Thanks you for uploading those photos of your Dad's. I created some categories to store them in; Jim Joyce collections and Fred Joyce photos.

I also lightened up the photos a bit and re-posted them. They were a little hard to make detail out on.

I have a question though, if that's Ted behind Louis in this photo:

then who is this behind Louis (scratching his head) by the policeman in this photo:

Thanks very much for putting these into the proper categories and for reposting them.

Regarding the man scratching his head in the photo, I don't know who he is. Apparently, Louis was inviting people to come to have their picture taken with him, and Dad jumped in to get that picture of Louis before getting the picture with our family. However, the policeman in that picture is Gerry Connelly, who worked full time at the Wharf for the DAR doing security and directing traffic. He was a longtime friend of my grandparents, and he was still working in the mid to late 1970's after the ferry dock was moved to its current location on the Shore Road. He eventually retired, and he passed away sometime during the late 1990's.

I don't know why my grandfather stayed in the background for the picture with our family. He played the trumpet in the old Digby Civic Band in the 1930's, and he was a big fan of Louis'.

It looks like you put a lot of time this past weekend into updating the uploads. I really appreciate all the work that you have done in creating and maintaining this site.

Thank you for you compliment which I extend to all who have contributed to this site including yourself.

We honour the lives and history of those who have come before us and support the current efforts of those like the Memory Lane Railway Museum by preserving our heritage and participating in this site!

Those photos of you and your family and Louis are priceless!
