Yarmouth streetcars

Post by jk_eaton »

I'm glad to see that on the 1925 yard map, there's a crossing shown with the Yarmouth town street car line. That Yarmouth had streetcars for 30 years seems to be little known - perhaps because the line shut down in 1928, so was only a memory by the end of WWII. Their existence has also been ignored by railway authors over the years.

Not many people know about that. I have it covered on Ivan Smith's recovered web pages on my web site NSHDPI.ca.

https://nshdpi.ca/is/hist/nshistory13.html Scroll down or ctrl-f "streetcar".

There's another page I just found today:

Do you have any further information?

If you go to the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/YarmouthNovaScotia and scroll you'll see some pictures of the streetcars and the tracks. I don't think there's any way to copy links for individual posts but if you go to 2 April 2023 and 24 December 2022 you'll see a couple. No doubt there are more if you scroll further. There may even be some photos of the DAR.

I also see that the Yarmouth County Museum has an archive package for purchase about the Yarmouth Street Railway:
