1) I have been wondering where exactly the Meteghan station was. I passed through it many times but my only view was from inside the train. Someone has placed a pin on Google Maps but I'm wondering if this was the location for sure:

2) Someone mentioned a few months ago on Facebook (which I can read only) that in the 50s the DAR was going to buy four RDCs and run a faster service. Is there any connection? I would think the only way the trains could run faster is if the tracks were improved. Was that the plan?
2) Did the DAR ever have to be realigned due to the building of the 101 or other roads (other than Windsor)? The line crossed the 101 in South Ohio here:

but I've often wondered if the tracks followed a different route before the highway and overpass were built and then were shifted to their final route. I've looked around the area to see if there's any sign of a previous path but in the approximately fifty years since this overpass was built it's possible any signs of a former alignment would be completely overgrown. I don't know how to find out if the highway goes through a cut that was dug for it and the overpass was completely new infrastructure or if it follows the natural topology of the area and the overpass was previously a trestle. In any case, if it replaced something already there or was new, the constructions of the highway likely would have caused at least weeks of service interruption until the overpass could be installed. Is there any info on this?

Re: A few questions
Unfortunately the track chart for Meteghan is missing. We didn't get them all. However it is known that it was at mile 57.2 on the Yarmouth sub. I made up these charts for each sub from track charts and time tables:

I believe the location of the station was around here as you can see the traces of the old roadbed widening for the siding here:

To my knowledge the DAR only ordered two RDCs and they were as everyone knows, lettered from the factory as Dominion Atlantic.

I don't believe I ever heard of any realignment around South Ohio. The road bed seems to be where it always was. No evidence of any other roadbed and even after 50 years, you can usually still see something. I'm sure the road was grade to pass under the railine. That's good old cut 'n' fill contruction. Do you have anecdotal evidence to the contrary?

Re: A few questions
Your map location is where I thought the station was. Someday I'll have to make a trip to check it out.
I have no information about a different right-of-way in South Ohio. It just seems to me that (I hope I'm explaining this well) if the current route of the 101 under the tracks is in fact a cut, then at some point when they dug out the route for the road they would have severed the DAR until they could build the overpass over the new highway. This would have meant a disruption in service for several weeks at least until the overpass was built. I just wonder if there was any record of this occurring. Maybe I can find out exactly what year the 101 was built down here and see if there are any news stories archived about it. I was just a kid so I don't recall exactly. In this area at least that would have been a significant story. It's interesting that they didn't build the highway over the tracks as they did over the CN line in Tusket (which was shut down less than ten years after the highway was built).

You can build a highway underpass with out even disturbing the rail line.
